2019: Best Trends in the E-Commerce Industry

Brick and Mortar shops are just as viable as ever. A shopping trip is always a fun excursion, especially with a group of friends and/or family. Topped off with a relaxing dinner or lunch, brick and mortar shopping can be a very self-fulfilling experience. Sometimes, however, shoppers look for more convenient options when shopping. The internet opened the doors to a whole new and exciting world to shoppers. Catalog shopping has been in existence since the early 1900s in the 20th century, so there has always been the convenience of shopping at home. With the inventions of personal computers, computers in general, the internet, and mobile phones, shopping has taken on a whole new venue. Today’s shoppers can shop in their cars, they can price check items online to get the best values and deals in-store or otherwise, they can have their merchandise shipped to their homes or offices, and they still have the added benefits of having professional input when making buying decisions, even while they are shopping online.

With the advent of computerized shopping came e-commerce opportunities. Brick and Mortar shop owners saw the benefits of extending their product line to their customers via the internet and online, but, independent merchants saw an opportunity from online shopping, also.

Many independent merchants have websites. An e-commerce website such as “Let’s Tango” let’s tango offers products that many consumers buy most often. This gives them leverage in the buyer’s market and makes the probability of obtaining sales more likely. “Let’s Tango” features a lot of the more popular to buy items like computers, televisions, sound systems, and other electronics. E-commerce websites, though, like any other business, have to have a way to get the word out, or no one will know they are there and if no one knows about them, there will be no sales because there will be no customers.

Marketing has always been a niche in the business world that could bring customers and advertisers to the same place. With online marketing and internet marketing, e-commerce business owners found that marketing through social media could be lucrative and inexpensive both at the same time. Social media marketing is a trend in e-commerce sales where customers that are interested in a particular product line or product style gather to interact, view and discuss the products, their attributes and their flaws, the overall impressions of the products, the e-commerce offerings, and solutions, etc. E-commerce owners get the opportunity to answer any questions their customers might have, resolve any conflicts or misinterpretations about the products, offer their professional advice about their products or services and which products would be best suited to that particular consumer and why. Social media marketing also gives the e-commerce business owner an area to promote their product line with sales notices and other shopping incentives.

Another trend in e-commerce shopping is SEO marketing. Since e-commerce stores are actual websites, they are interrelated with search engines. Search engines were put into place on the internet to allow for navigation to the many sites and web pages that are interconnected there in that one space, the worldwide web. Search engines operate by detecting codes found in the use of the words that are chosen to serve much as a map legend would. This code gives the search engine directions to where a particular website is. The success with SEO is with popularity. To be sought out and noticed, the search terms and the names of the sites must be search terms and website names that consumers search for routinely and most often, otherwise, the site will just float along in its own island or abyss barely noticed and barely traveled to, generating very little revenue.

With marketing being a critical factor in e-commerce success, what could slow up sales once a consumer finds the e-commerce website? One thing that could slow up sales could be the formatting of the site, the general appearance of the website, the degree of professionalism with which the customers are handled when visiting the site, etc. Because having professionalism incorporated into an e-commerce website is essential, it is imperative to many e-commerce business owners that they seek out companies that have expertise in building e-commerce websites that are designed to attract customers and business and keep them as steady, repeat customers and clients.

There are many e-commerce website platforms available for lease on the internet. The prices for these platforms vary. Many platforms come with add-on features that can be purchased. These features allow the e-commerce retailer to sell their products, accept payments through the most conventional methods, to have the products packaged and shipped professionally and to offer email outreach and correspondence opportunities between the e-commerce retailer and the consumer. This, of course, opens the door to email marketing campaign opportunities and a way to connect with the consumer in efforts to invite discourse and eventually a shopping venture or repeat shopping venture by the consumer and convert the consumer into a customer, and at that, a repeat customer.

Email marketing has long been a trend in marketing websites on the internet. Early on, many sites were used as places to gain access to informational materials as well as contact information for businesses and their services. E-commerce stores opened a whole new outlet that could utilize the concept of email marketing and email marketing campaigns. Email marketing works best in conjunction with lead generation systems. Lead generation systems accumulate contact information for consumers who are interested in being contacted via email or telephone with invitations to visit websites or to purchase products. The consumers generally opt “in” to being contacted by providing their contact information on “contact me” forms that are located on numerous websites and social media pages. They are generally grouped according to their income levels, zip codes, and the items they are interested in knowing more about. E-commerce retailers see their busiest shopping days during the Christmas Holidays Season just as other retailers do. Trends in shopping patterns tend to be seasonal, fluctuating between the Christmas boon, slowing down through February and March, picking back up during the summer months and heading back on into the winter’s months with the Christmas Seasons’ rush again.
